I've never been much of a Beatles fan, but I can appreciate their insight and wisdom in some of the lyrics they wrote. One song in particular caught my attention today...
"All You Need Is Love!"
How true this is. Even though we all have different ideas about what love means to us, we all have a "built in" desire for it. Love is all around us. And most people believe the opposite of Love is Hate. But actually the opposite of Love is Fear. Love and Fear cannot exist in the same space. But I guess technically Hate is a form of Fear so in a round about way I can see how it would be translated that way. For it's not until we remove all of our fear that we can allow ourselves to Love completely. This is where people seem to have the most trouble. Letting go of our fear of rejection, judgement, hurt, our fear of losing those we love, etc. Until we can learn to shake off these fears we can never experience the full potential that love has to offer us.
Sure we need food and water to "survive", but we are all seeking love because it is an essential element to our survival as well. And the best way to find Love... yep, you got it... give it! It may not always come back to you the way you expect it. Or it may not come back to you from the people you give it to. But it always comes back.
But here is the funny part... you have to do it for the right reasons for it to work. If you Love someone just to get Love back you will be very dissappointed. Love is not selfish that way. Some people also refer to it as Karma, but it's the same principle just with a different name. If you keep score you loose all your "points". That's why words like faith, hope, trust, are all associated with Love, because they are characteristics of it.
So the next time you reach out to someone in the name of Love, make sure it is with a pure heart and without selfish intentions. But by all means keep giving it. Because that leads us to another great lyric from the Beatles or "Beatle", and that is... "The Love you get is equal to the Love you give!"
So keep on givin!
Love,
Wookiee
